Peabody has eyes on New Balance nationals

BOSTON โ€” The Peabody track teams continue to raise the bar as they prepare for the March 13-16 New Balance Nationals Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet at The Track at New Balance.

Sunday, the teams tuned up in the Last Chance Indoor Nationals Qualifier Meet at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. Let’s just say that personal records were the rule of the day.

Senior Peyton Smith won the high school 60m hurdles with a PR 8.51.

The 4×200 relay of junior Henry Sawyer, senior Evan Bedard, senior Michael Murphy, and senior Tyler Rappold won the collegiate division with a school-record time of 1:31.98.

Senior Declan Smith ran the fastest mile in the Northeastern Conference this season and finished 12th in the open division mile in a personal-best 4:18.83. His time was the second fastest in Peabody indoor track history.

Senior Brian Stevens finished second in the collegiate division 500m with a PR 1:08.76. Murphy also set a PR, He finished third in the collegiate division 300m in 37.31.

Rappold (23.29) and Sawyer (23.42) set PRs and finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the open division 200.

Senior Omar Mishal finished 21st in the collegiate division 400 with a PR 53.64. Junior Osama Mishal was right behind in 25th with a PR 55.09.

Freshman Ella Braz set a PR in the open division mile (5:23.83) and qualified for the national freshman mile. She finished 25th.

Senior Makayla Kokonezis finished sixth in the collegiate division long jump (4.75).
Freshman Lauren Foley (2:26), sophomore Avery Marcus (2:27.64), and junior Jane Haight (2:29.67) finished 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively, in the collegiate division 800 and set PRs.
