BOSTON — The depth of Peabody’s boys and girls track teams was on display Saturday at the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association annual Division 2 State Relays at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
The boys team scored 39 points to finish third behind winner North Andover, while the girls team finished fourth with 26 points.
In the boys meet, Peabody had two first-place team finishes and two individual winners. Alex Jackson (59-07.5) won the shot put. Areno Saint-Victor (47-05.75) and Jackson O’Brien (42-03.5) finished third and 11th, respectively, to secure the team title.
Evan Bedard (PR 22-00,25) won the long jump. Juan Rivera (PR 20-08.5) and Riley Michaud (PR 19-06.00) finished sixth and 15th, respectively, to bring home the team title.
The 1,600 sprint medley team of Bedard, Henry Sawyer, Brian Stevens and Declan Smith. (3:38.10) finished second and qualified for the Scholastic Nationals Championship Division Meet. The shuttle dash relay team of Luke Dang, Mike Murphy, Tyler Rappold, and Sawyer finished third (22.39).
Other top-10 finishes were turned in by Smith, ninth in the high jump (5-05.75); Murphy, Rappold, Omar Mishal, Sawyer, eighth in the 4×200 relay (1:35.18); and Bedard, Mishal, Mohamed Lhassouani, Smith, fifth in the 4×400 relay (3:31.35).
In the girls meet, the Tanners finished second and fourth in the sprint medley relay with Ava Champigny, Maya Sutton, Avery Marcus, and Lauren Foley taking second in 4:27.77 and Tamara Kemigisha, Maddy Barrett, Jane Haight and Ella Braz taking fourth in 4:34.39.
Alessandra Forgione (31-01.50) finished second in the shot put, leading the Tanners to a second-place team finish with Madison Holleran (13th, 27-10.00) and Ava Gonzalez (23rd, 26-07.75).
Marcus, Champigny, Barrett, and Foley finished sixth in the 4×400 relay (4:16.6).
Makayla Kokonezis (16-00.25), Sutton (15-05.5) and Brooke Martin (13-09.5) placed eighth in the long jump, while Kemigisha, Bunn, Holleran, and Cassiano placed eighth in the shuttle dash relay (26.34).
A sweep of Danvers
In a conference dual-meet against Danvers, both Peabody teams remained undefeated with the girls winning, 48-33, and boys winning, 53.5-27.5. Each Peabody team won six individual events en route to victory.
On the boys side, Smith was a double-winner, taking the high jump (6-06) and mile (4:43.7). The Tanners’ top event was the shot put with Jackson (62-08.5), Saint-Victor (49-00) and O’Brien (41-05.5) pulling off a sweep.
Other Tanner winners were Bedard in the 45 dash (5.3), Peyton Smith in the 45 hurdles (5.9), and Lhassouani in the 1000 (2:49.5).
Others contributing points were Michaud, second in the high jump (5-06); Sawyer (5.5) and Dang (5.6), second and tied for third, respectively, in the 45 dash; Christ Jeune, second in the 45 hurdles (6.7); Mishal (40.5) and Michael Murphy (40.6), second and third, respectively, in the 300; Stevens, second in the 600 (1:30.5); Jackson Guerriero, third in the mile (5:14); and Matt McCusker, third in the 2-mile (12:24.0).
Winners on the girls side were Haight in the mile (6:01.9), Sutton in the 300 (45.8), Marcus in the 600 (1:45), Braz in the 1,000 (3:20.0), Kokonezis in the high jump (5-02), and Alessandra Forgione in the shot put (35-01). Kokonezis also placed third in the 45 dash (6.2).
Other Tanners contributing second-place points to the final score were Kenigisha, 45 dash (6.1); Kayley Bunn, 45 hurdles (7.1); Champigny, 300 (46.6); Foley, mile (6:02) and Victoria Vaz, 2-mile (13:32.2).
Third-place finishes were turned in by Holleran in the shot put (28-01) and Lilly Furcal in the 1,000 (3:34).
The Tanners have a busy week ahead of them. Thursday, they travel to Gloucester for an NEC meet against the Fishermen (4:30 p.m.). Sunday, the teams head to the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston for the annual Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Coaches Invitational (Large Schools) and Wednesday, Peabody will host Masconomet (4:30 p.m.).
