CHARLESTOWN — Last Tuesday morning, state Rep. Thomas P. Walsh (D-Peabody) was greeted by CEO Lauren Hoops Schmieg and her team at the Ronald McDonald House Charities New England (RMHC-NE) home in Charlestown to contribute needed household items and an assortment of containers filled with can tabs collected by dozens of participants across the North Shore this summer.
“I am thrilled to celebrate our third year of partnership in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities-NE and to highlight the critical role this organization fulfills in providing a home and a sense of normalcy for families during a very stressful time,” Walsh said. “I am so grateful for participants who took time to collect the tabs from cans following summertime cookouts and gatherings. Please know that your effort in taking this extra step has a profound and meaningful impact for families in their time of need.”
“Every year, Representative Walsh and the entire Peabody community and beyond have shown tremendous support to our organization and our families by collecting pop tabs and much-needed Wish List items, and we are so incredibly grateful to them. The Ronald McDonald House Charities New England provides lodging and hospitality, home-cooked meals, and family-oriented activities for families from across the world during the duration of their child’s life-saving care at nearby hospitals.
The aluminum pop-tabs collected by Ronald McDonald House Charities are recycled with the proceeds of the scrap value remitted to the charity and the earnings used toward programming.
