BOSTON — Rep. Thomas P. Walsh (D-Peabody) announced several Peabody projects to be funded following Gov. Maura Healey’s signature affirming the state budget July 29. Approved by the legislature and signed by the governor, the state budget will distribute $37,072,720 to Peabody schools and $8,888,400 in unrestricted aid to the city.
The signed fiscal year 2025 budget also includes programming for Peabody, sponsored by Walsh, to provide:
- $50,000 for flood mitigation by dredging of the upper Goldwaithe Brook
- $25,000 to allow for the Peabody Educational Foundation, a longtime local 501 C3 organization partnering with the Peabody Public Schools, to expand their mental health initiative in Peabody Schools
- $23,000 to the Peabody Department of Public Health for an additional school health clinician
“By expanding access to mental health resources in schools, our children will have the opportunity to receive additional care and support in a setting convenient to them,” Walsh said. “I am thankful to my colleague Representative Kerans and to Senator Lovely for her leadership in the Senate to support these important initiatives for our community.”
Initiated by Sen. Joan Lovely and supported by Walsh in the House, the state budget also includes $95,000 in funding for the purchase and distribution of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in the city’s parks.
The Commonwealth’s FY25 budget runs through June 30, 2025.
