St. John’s Prep 5
Malden Catholic 0
For the 30th time in 34 years, the St. John’s Prep Eagles are Catholic Conference champions. Head coach Mark Metropolis and his squad are a perfect 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the league.
The Eagles hosted Malden Catholic Monday. The Lancers suffered a similar fate that most teams have experienced going up against St. John’s Prep, a 5-0 sweep.
It was a near-perfect match as the Eagles dropped just one set across the five matches.
In first singles, John DeAngelis defeated Jack Burgess 6-0, 6-0, while in second singles, Jack Prokopis took care of Nan Dinh 6-0, 6-0 to get the Eagles off to a commanding start.
Third singles, Luke Free, was too much for Lucas Wang, defeating him in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
First doubles, Wade Evits and Charlie Weld, showed their chemistry, beating Matteo Peledge and Drew Rynak 6-0, 6-1. Second doubles, Chris Melville and Ciaran de Buy Wenniger, defeated Julian Cuper and James Guild 6-0, 6-0.
Earlier this season, Metropolis earned his 500th win at St. John’s Prep against Wellesley High, and, now, he adds another Catholic Conference title to his already-impressive resume.
