Peabody traveled to Swampscott last Thursday and won nine of 10 events with a final score of 72-14. Better yet, the Tanners finished first and second across seven of them. Winning their respective events were Ayanna Cirame (high jump), Madison Holleran (shot put), Jocelyn Ridley (hurdles), MacKenzie Miller (55m), Avani Ingham, Lauren Foley (1,000m), and Ella Braz. The mile relay was won by Braz, Foley, Avery Marcus, and Maya Sutton.

St. Mary’s earned its second win of the season with a 21-point victory in Danvers. Rolky Brea Arias netted 18 points, followed by Jake Fortier (16) and Jason Perry (11).

Thad Broughton Jr. (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Brian Collins-Dixon (6 points, 3 rebounds), and Cory Dooley (6 rebounds) fought hard, but Peabody had no answers for Masconomet’s offense.

Swampscott improved to 3-0 with a win over Peabody.
Peabody was led by Jeremiah Agbonavbare with 16 points. Thad Broughton Jr. finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mark Mendonca scored 10 points, and Brian Collins Dixon added nine.
Swampscott’s Connor Chiarello scored 22 points, handed out seven assists and recorded five steals. Michael Lutko posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Chase Groothius added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Bishop Fenwick’s girls basketball team doubled up Newton South — and then some — in Wednesday’s season opener. Through a 64-30 final, captains Caitlin Boyle (20 points, 7 rebounds) and Celia Neilson (17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists) led by example. They were followed by Brittany Figulski and Kyleigh Pidgeon, who collected eight rebounds apiece.

With a “complete-game effort,” according to Peabody coach Stan McKeen, his Tanners netted 11 threes and defeated Masconomet. The team was led by Aliana Ryan (20 points, 5 assists, 4 steals), Olivia Gaynor (17 points, 5 assists), Avery Bettencourt (10 points, 4 steals), Sophia Coburn (8 points, 7 blocks), Lizzie Bettencourt, Ava Ryan, and Olivia Ball.

The Tanners earned a road victory taking down the Big Blue of Swampscott.
Avery Bettencourt had the hot hand for Peabody scoring 15 points. Olivia Gaynor scored 10, while teammate Sophia Coburn had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Swampscott was led by Anna Kanders who netted 28 points, making seven threes.
“Anna was special tonight. She was never rattled and was always ready with an answer for anything Peabody threw at us,” Swampscott coach Katelyn Leonard said. “We fought so hard. That is a great team, and it came right down to the end. I’m so proud of our team and how we played, and I know we’ll be better from this.”

The Lady Crusaders (2-0) defended home court and doubled up Arlington Catholic last Sunday. Leading the hosts were Celia Neilson (20 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Caitlin Boyle (14 points, 12 rebounds). Reese Spurchise added 8 points, three assists, and three steals, while Kyleigh Pidgeon recorded seven points and four rebounds.

Enemy ice was no problem for PLNR and first-year head coach Guy Angiuoni. The team knocked off Medford-Malden in overtime with a game-winner scored by Sarah Mitchell with 1:33 remaining in overtime.
Eleni Spack and Sydney Zizza also scored for PLNR. Goalie Sophia Downing earned her first win, making a series of key saves to keep the team in the game.

Despite a goal from Grace Allen, assisted by Eleni Spack and Sarah Mitchell, PLNR met its match in a “very competitive game,” according to first-year coach Guy Angiuoni. PLNR dipped to 1-1, while the Panthers improved to 2-0.

Bishop Fenwick traveled to Archbishop Williams, but was unable to come back to Peabody with the win.
Senior captain Caroline Blatchford won the 200 individual medley in 2:24.94 and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.66. Both times qualified her for the North Sectionals and the Division 1 state meet.
Blatchford also helped the 400 freestyle relay team bring home first place. A team of Lucy Webber, Katie Kelley, Zoey Spaulding and Blatchford, the team finished ahead of the pack with a 4:57.37.
