The YMCA of Metro North is opening its doors to furloughed federal workers and their families by offering a free one-month membership to help ease the stress of the ongoing federal shutdown.
The YMCA recognizes the financial and emotional strain that furloughed workers may be experiencing and wants to provide a space for relief, community, and wellness. Through this initiative, eligible federal workers can enjoy full access to YMCA of Metro North facilities, including fitness centers, swimming pools, group exercise classes, gyms, and more.
“During difficult times, the Y steps up for our community,” said Kathleen Walsh, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North. “We know that stress can take a toll on people physically, mentally, and emotionally. We want federal workers to know they’re not alone, and that the Y is a place where they can find strength, support, and connection while weathering this uncertainty.”
Federal workers can visit the Welcome Center at any YMCA of Metro North branch — in Lynn, Melrose, Peabody, or Saugus — to redeem their free month of membership by presenting a valid federal ID.
“Take your stress out on our treadmills, lift weights, swim a few laps, or shoot some hoops in the gym,” Walsh added. “We’re all in this together.”
