Peabody resident, Ken Foster, registered for the Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai in honor of his wife’s niece, Stacey, who fought a 22 year long battle with Leukemia.
Foster has been walking on and off with the Jimmy Fund since 1990 and has been faithfully walking ever since 2020. His first Walk Day experience was alongside Stacey’s father, and all the years following, have always been in her spirit.
Over the 22-year battle, “Stacey’s inspiration to live, no matter what, was my inspiration,” Foster said. He strives to keep her spirit alive every year by participating and raising funds to help every other child stricken with any form of cancer.
Walk day is extra personal for Foster. He said, “I just think how I am here getting to do something for Stacey, something she wishes she could do, and that is why I walk –– and while it brings sadness, I know she is looking down at me saying stay strong and thank you.” To visit Ken’s fundraising page visit tinyurl.com/Ken-Foster-Walks.
The 2025 Jimmy Fund Walk will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5 to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Whether participating for themselves, loved ones, neighbors, or co-workers, each walker shares a common purpose: to join together against cancer and support breakthroughs that will benefit cancer patients around the world.
Participants have the flexibility to choose from four distance options: 5K walk (from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute); 10K walk (from Newton); half marathon walk (from Wellesley); marathon walk (from Hopkinton). Walkers can participate virtually, as well.
The Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $185 million for Dana-Farber Cancer in its 36-year history. Funds raised from the Jimmy Fund Walk support all forms of adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the Institute.
