Central Street Improvement Project to resume

March 25, 2025 by For The Weekly News

Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt Jr. announced the resumption of the Central Street Improvement Project for the 2025 construction season. Work crews will begin mobilizing during the week of March 24.

Peabody received nearly $20 million in state and federal funds to completely rebuild the Central Street corridor, beginning at its intersection with Walnut Street near Dunkin Donuts and continuing through the intersection of Endicott Street and Route 114 at Wilson Square.

The project includes a new road surface, sidewalks and curbs, crosswalks, traffic signals, and modern design amenities. It will improve traffic flow, accessibility, and the safety and quality of life of countless Peabody residents and business owners.

“Once finished, the new Central Street will be a huge improvement for Peabody and for the entire region,” Mayor Bettencourt said. “There is still a long way to go, however, and a project of this size and scope is bound to cause some headaches and test our patience.”

“My office will provide regular construction updates while the Peabody Police provide real-time traffic information,” Bettencourt continued. “Police details will reroute traffic when necessary and help keep everyone safe during construction.”

For more information on the project including construction schedules, residents and business owners can visit peabody-ma.gov or download the PeabodyConnect app for their Apple and Android devices.
