A three-alarm house fire broke out Tuesday morning at a three-story residence at 38 Pierpont St., which spread to a two-story convenience store and residence at 60 Aborn St.
According to Peabody Fire Chief Jay Dowling, no injuries to occupants or firefighters occurred during the fire.
Peabody Fire Department and Salem Fire Department received multiple calls around 10:43 a.m.
Engines from both departments arrived simultaneously, with PFD responding to the Pierpont Street side of the fire and SFD to the Aborn Street side.
“Both companies got water on the fire quickly. It started at 38 Pierpont St. in the rear of the building, all three porches were (on fire),” Dowling said. “They both got water on it fairly quickly, but it had already jumped to the building right behind at 60 Aborn St.”
All five Peabody engines responded to scene, two came from Salem, while Lynn Fire Department and Danvers Fire Department also offered assistance with the blaze.
Lynnfield, Swampscott, Beverley, and North Reading fire departments provided coverage for Peabody. In addition, an off-duty firefighter named Shaun Farrell who lives nearby to the affected homes helped first responders, saving a dog from the Pierpont house in the process, Dowling said.
It’s unclear right now how many people reside in these homes, but all have been accounted for.
“We ended up going to three alarms because, especially going to Aborn Street, we thought we might’ve lost that building, but crews did a fantastic job getting over there and stopping it,” Dowling said.
Peabody Police Department helped by using a drone to find hot spots, the first time the technology has been deployed, according to Dowling.
As of now, no cause for the fire has been determined.
