It was an action-packed weekend of high school track and field as local athletes performed in MSTCA divisional relays.
In Division 1, St. John’s Prep was victorious with 68 points. Second-place Central Catholic totaled 37. Tyson Stroope took third in the high jump relay (6-2), while the 4x50y relay team of Ahmir Hykel, Dayvian Sullivan, Jordan Toribio, and Andrew McManmon took first in 21.27. Also winning was the 4x200m team of Hykel, McManmon, Quinten Murray, and Will Quigley (1:30.66).
Div. 2 action saw Peabody’s Kavier Lopez (6-0) win the high jump and Jake Marcotullio take 10th in shot put (42-7). Madison Holleran (34-7) won the shot put, while the boys 4x50y team of Christ Jeune, Lopez, Luke Dang, and Henry Sawyer won in 21.95.
As for Bishop Fenwick in Div. 4, Marianna Kay, Maeve O’Donnell, Julia Davis, and Adelaide Sweatman finished fifth in the 4,000m (13:41.71). In the 4x800m, Kay, Sweatman, Olivia Rowe, and Davis took sixth in 10:31.51.

Peabody’s girls track and field team defeated Danvers behind double-winner Ayanna Cirame (hurdles, high jump). Also winning events were MacKenzie Miller (45-yard dash), Avani Ingham (300m), Avery Marcus (600m), Lauren Foley (1,000m), Ella Braz (mile), and Ricayla Adams (shot put).
“The shot put and hurdle teams swept their events with outstanding performances,” said Peabody coach Phil Sheridan.

Peabody dipped to 2-9 after a loss to town rival Bishop Fenwick. The Tanners were led by Thad Broughton Jr. (22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals), Jeremiah Agbonavbare (19 points), Mark Mendonca (5 assists, 5 rebounds), and Jack Smith (4 points).

Despite a narrow defeat, Broughton Jr. shined with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Helping the Tanners’ cause were Agbonavbare (13 points), Mendonca (11 points, 9 assists), and Cory Dooley (6 points, 6 rebounds).

Mendonca hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining in regulation and sent the game to overtime, but the Vikings edged the Tanners from there. Peabody was led by Broughton Jr. (20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists), Dom Domenici (11 points), and Agbonavbare (14 points), who also played “great defense,” according to coach Thad Broughton.

The Fenwick duo of Caitlin Boyle (21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals) and Celia Neilson (9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) played well, but the Crusaders (8-1) suffered their first defeat with the Shamrocks in town.

Peabody fell behind early and couldn’t recover. Lizzie Bettencourt, Aliana Ryan, and Avery Bettencourt played well for the Tanners, according to coach Stan McKeen.

Make it back-to-back wins for the Tanners, who conquered the Vikings with a strong second half. Olivia Gaynor (15 points, 5 steals), Sophia Coburn (9 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals), Lizzie Bettencourt (8 points, 10 rebounds) Ava Ryan (8 points, 8 rebounds), Gabby Gosselin, Aliana Ryan, and Taylor King led the charge.

Fenwick (8-0) remained perfect with a dominant road win. The one-two punch of Neilson (19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 7 steals) and Boyle (11 points, 9 rebounds) took over again.
WRESTLING
The St. John’s Prep wrestling team secured its 28th consecutive Catholic Conference championship Monday and 31st in program history. In a super-quad against conference opponents, the Eagles flew by Saint John’s Shrewsbury, Catholic Memorial, Boston College High, Malden Catholic, and Xaverian Brothers. Undefeated St. John’s Prep wrestlers were Colin Vitale, Ben Schumacher, Graham Conway, Jimmy Lally, Will LaVallee, Charlie Poor, Sam Josey, and Bryant Mason.
Saugus/Peabody (12-0) stayed unbeaten with a 65-12 win against Salem. Freshman Giana Caceto earned her first varsity victory. Matt Dresser rallied late, scoring a pin in the final 30 seconds. Jackson Deleidi and Mike Maraio also won their matches to remain unbeaten in dual-meet competitions.

The Bishop Fenwick girls fell to Arlington Catholic inside of the Beverly YMCA. Senior captain Caroline Blatchford took first place in the 200 free (2:05:39) and qualified for North Sectionals, as well as Division 1 states. She also won the 100 backstroke (1:07.27).
