A scoreless game after one period, St. Mary’s (Lynn) boys hockey team took a 1-0 lead against St. John’s Prep in the second period, but fell 3-1 inside of Essex Sports Center Saturday. The Spartans dipped to 3-4, while the Eagles flew to 4-0-2.
After a second-period face-off won by Finn Racki, Colton Carpenter took a shot that was rebounded home by St. Mary’s Evan Toro (1-0).
Logan Daigle, Brennan Waters (game-winner), and Anthony Petruccelli (empty-netter) scored three unanswered goals to put the game away for St. John’s, which returned to the ice Wednesday against Saint John’s Shrewsbury at 6 p.m. Results were too late to print.

Fenwick struck early and never looked back. Defenseman Noah Hammond opened the scoring with a slap shot in the first period. Chris Ferlito capitalized on a loose puck in front during the second period to make it 2-0. David Perez added an insurance goal before Nashoba Valley scored late.

Despite late-game heroics from Peabody’s Marc Mendonca — who drilled a triple with two seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime — the Tanners (1-5) were edged on home hardwood. Mendonca (26 points, 5 assists), Thad Broughton (18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists), and Ian Salazar (13 points, 7 rebounds) played strong games.

The dynamic duo did it again as Caitlin Boyle (18 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists) and Celia Neilson (11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) led visiting Fenwick against Tewksbury Memorial in a 45-34 final. The Crusaders — helmed once again by coach Adam DeBaggis — led by just two points, 22-20, at halftime before a 17-5 third-quarter run.

In the consolation game of the Waltham Christmas Tournament, Peabody fell despite strong performances from Aliana Ryan (10 points), Olivia Gaynor (7), and Sophia Coburn (6). Also playing well, according to coach Stan McKeen, was Lizzie Bettencourt, who chipped in four points and six rebounds.

The Marblehead and Bishop Fenwick girls hockey teams fought to a 1-1 draw at Rockett Arena in Salem. Fenwick’s Bella Marcinkowski broke the ice with a go-ahead strike before Brooke Griffin answered for the Lady Headers. The teams meet again Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 8:40 p.m. on Fenwick’s home ice at the Essex Sports Center in Middleton.
