Roundup: Lady Crusaders cruise past Silver Lake

Bishop Fenwick won the first round of the Sue Rivard Tournament comfortably against Silver Lake Regional on Sunday. 

Bishop Fenwick got help from a host of players as it was a total team effort. Celia Neilson scored 17 points, dished out five assists and had five steals. Caitlin Boyle was unstoppable in the pain grabbing 17 rebounds to go along with six points and five steals. Brittney Figulski (9 points, 4 steals), Reese Spurchise (7 points, 5 steals), and Taisha Castillo (6 points, 6 rebounds) also helped to secure the win.

Bishop Fenwick 61

The Pioneers made 16 three-pointers en route to a home victory over the Crusaders. Bishop Fenwick was led by Damon Mataragas, who scored 17 points, while teammate Vincent Finocchio added 14.

Peabody 69

Whittier Tech 36

Peabody (1-4) picked up its first win of the season with a 33 point win over Whittier Tech. Thad Broughton Jr., Ian Salazar, and Marc Mendonca all scored in double figures. Cory Dooley, Jeremiah Agbonavbare, and Jack Smith also played well.

Peabody coach Thad Broughton described the game as a “team effort” in which “everyone contributed.”

Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott scored four goals in the first period and didn’t look back. Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott went on to win the Lynn Christmas Tournament.
