10th annual holiday stroll brought in community spirit

December 2, 2025 by Jackie Manno

More than 500 community members attended the annual holiday stroll on Nov. 29 to have fun and support local businesses.

The holiday stroll, which has been going on for a decade, allows families and residents to travel throughout downtown via trolleys and explore local businesses while enjoying exciting activities along the way.

“(The stroll) is intended to bring people downtown, to have some fun and hopefully discover local businesses and restaurants that they might not be aware of,” said Deanne Healey, President of the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce.

“The kids love the activities, especially the indoor snowball fight! Businesses and organizations hosting the activities appreciate the opportunity to give back to their community and, in some cases, promote what they do,” she added.

This year, witches from Salem, the sugar plum fairy, and North Shore Dance Academy performed at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The Knights of Columbus also gave out hot chocolate and ran a snack bar. Meanwhile, Crystal Joyce Dance Studio performed at the courthouse plaza.

“One of the Knights of Columbus’ missions is charity, and this includes giving back to our great city. We enjoy seeing all the happy faces who come into the building,” said Knights of Columbus Peabody President Louis Cersosimo.

One highlight of the holiday stroll was Santa’s Workshop, hosted by the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There, tables were set up for participants to learn about local offerings while munching on a holiday cookie.

“The Knights have been involved with the Holiday Stroll for many years, and this year was without question the best one yet. Every year, we let the Chamber of Commerce, along with the City of Peabody, use our facilities free of charge. Everyone this year loved the Santa’s workshop,” Cersosimo said.

Healey said, “The Peabody Area Chamber hosting the Santa’s Workshop activities provides local businesses, not located downtown, the ability to show support for their community and generate exposure for their business. People take notice of businesses that regularly contribute and support community initiatives.”

Healey continued, “Events like the Holiday Stroll are meant to generate community spirit, but more importantly, they are economic development, too.  Too often, small businesses hear “I didn’t know you were here”.  When you give people a reason to come downtown, especially when it generates a crowd, we demonstrate that parking really isn’t a problem, increased foot traffic means businesses and restaurants have more customers, (and) more customers result in a stronger business community.”
