Roundup: Fenwick football cruises to 49-0 win

Bishop Fenwick’s football team (2-3) took care of business on enemy turf Friday, cruising to a 49-0 victory against Cardinal Spellman (0-5) after leading, 43-0, at halftime.

Leading the Crusaders – who scored 36 first-quarter points – were Dylan Patturelli (8 carries, 119 yards rushing, 3 TDs) and Jamie Dube (receiving TD, punt return TD, interception).

Andrew Kiricopoles (5-for-6, 102 yards, TD) tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass, Tyler Connolly rushed for a 1-yard score, and Jackson Cody found the promised land with an 18-yard rush. Ian Guarino was 5-for-6 on extra-point attempts, also rushing nine times for 75 yards.

Next up, a Catholic Central League test. Fenwick hosts Bishop Feehan (Attleborough) Friday at 7 p.m. The Shamrocks are 4-1 and defeated BC High, 35-13, in their last game.

BOYS SOCCER

St. John’s Prep 2
BC High 0

Marcus Obodai scored the game-winner, followed Garrison Murphy’s insurance goal, and St. John’s Prep blanked BC High on Glatz Field. Matt Droggitis made three key saves and recorded his ninth shutout.

GIRLS SOCCER

Arlington 1
Peabody 0

Arlington squeezed out of Peabody with a one-goal win. Tanners’ coach Andrew Douglass said Emma Wardle, Gabby Meola, Marley Loring, Grace Sylvester, and Ava Barresi “played great games defensively.” Offensive chances came from Cara Corriveau, Brielle Broughton, and Maggie Jolin.

FIELD HOCKEY

Swampscott 3
Bishop Fenwick 1

Megan Baran, Sofia Robledo Puch, and Lia Beatrice scored goals as the Big Blue took down Fenwick. Lilah Caplan made five key saves for Swampscott, while Alex Kohalmi scored the Crusaders’ goal off an assist from Bella McCormack.

Six goals. Six players.

Fenwick received goals from Bella McCormack, Sophie Cooke, Mia Millett, Aibhilin Sova (first varsity goal), Shea Mason, and Caroline O’Hare en route to victory. Sarah Bannister (2 saves) and Ginny Cahill split time between the pipes.

Malden 0

Senior Night was a good one for Peabody, which ripped eight goals despite a banged up roster. Rachley Blanco Lora scored her first varsity goal. Other contributing Tanners were Yashvi Patel (assist), Natalia Targett (assist), Karley O’Connor (goal), Kylee Bettencourt (2 goals), Elizabeth Moore (2 goals), Chris Troncoso (2 goals, 2 assists), and Sophia Kassis (2 saves).

Through come-from-behind set scores of 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-15, Fenwick took care of business in Catholic Central League action. Leading the Crusaders were Emme Lubas (28 assists, 11 digs), Caitlin Boyle (12 kills , 8 blocks), Kylie Murphy (7 kills, 5 blocks, 6 digs), Anna Diranian (8 aces, 15 digs), Brittney Figulski (6 kills, 17 digs, 5 aces), and Charlotte Spooner (9 kills, 4 aces, 10 digs).

Swampscott 2

The Crusaders picked up a narrow road victory in a back-and-forth battle against Swampscott 26-28, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 17-15. Lubas led Bishop Fenwick with 32 assists, while Murphy (4 blocks, 4 aces, 7 kills), Spooner (10 kills, 5 digs, 10 aces), and Figulski (10 digs, 5 aces) came up big.

GOLF

Xaverian 219
St. John’s Prep 232

St. John’s Prep lost to rival Xaverian despite low scores from Jack Carew (36), Cole Cullen (37), and Jack Moriarty (37).

CROSS COUNTRY

Bishop Fenwick ran well at the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational in Falmouth Saturday night. Deven Dion (17th – 12:18) and Kayla Antico (18th – 14:44) medaled among freshmen, while Adelaide Sweatman (15th – 19:18) and Marianna Kay (26th – 20:22) performed well in the varsity girls 5K.

Both Peabody teams defeated Salem by identical scores of 19-36 last week. Winning the boys race was Matt McCusker, while CeCe Toda took first among girls to pace the Tanners.

St. John’s Prep soared to the finish line to claim a win against Catholic Memorial at Bradley Palmer State Park. Jack McIntosh placed first in the 5K course with a time of 16:19. The Eagles also placed third through eighth: Leo Seltenrich (16:55), Mateo DeOrio (17:02), Liam Mahoney (17:12), Liam Callahan (17:15), Hunter Opal (17:27), Henry McDonnell (17:29).
