Community members gathered at Brooksby Farm last Wednesday afternoon for the City’s 11th annual Senior Day.
The event ran from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and featured complimentary lunch as well as hay rides through the orchard fields and plenty of vendor booths.
Mayor Ted Bettencourt spoke to attendees before lunch began. He emphasized how unique Brooksby Farm’s existence is.
“The City of Peabody, we are the only city in the state of Massachusetts that owns and operates its own farm, “ he said. “We own and operate Brooksby Farm, yes, and then we went ahead and bought a second farm, Tillie’s Farm over in south Peabody, and that’s a great farm as well.”
Bettencourt later added, “I want to thank you all for the support for our city. It’s been a rough year that we’ve been challenged in so many different ways, and more than ever, we need these moments as a community to come together, celebrate something wonderful, celebrate friendship, be with people that you care about – and it’s great to have this event. This has become an important tradition in our city, one that will continue, and we’ll build upon it.”
First-time attendees Linda Mendonca and Brenda Contilli were very impressed with this year’s Senior Day at Brooksby Farm. The two emphasized that they chose to attend this year’s event because “our mayor does such a wonderful job with the seniors that we thought we’d check it out – and it doesn’t disappoint.”
Contilli added that her favorite part of the event was the people. She said, “The people are so pleasant. The volunteers are so fabulous… I met the nicest, nicest people that I don’t even know. It’s just such a friendly, warm place to be.”
Mendonca and Contilli also emphasized how pleased they were with Bettencourt, saying over and over that he “did a great job” with Senior Day at Brooksby Farm.
