Roundup: Up-and-down week for girls soccer squad

Olivia Ball of Peabody’s girls soccer team posted her first shutout in a hard-fought, scoreless draw against the Salem Witches Monday. Days earlier, the Tanners fell, 3-1, against a strong Masconomet side. Gabby Gosselin scored for the Tanners after a corner kick from Sophia Galbiati.

“Marley Loring, Cara Corriveau, Ava Barresi, Zelie Campbell, and Gabby Meola were outstanding on defense,” said Peabody coach Andrew Douglass.

The Tanners fell short in Salem, despite Diego Lemus and Jason Decost scoring goals. With the game tied, 2-2, Salem’s Guywintz Jules scored the game-winner with 13 minutes remaining in the game.

St. John’s Prep 0
Brookline 0

St. John’s Prep played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Matt Droggitis made five saves for his second straight shutout to open the season. Midfielders Owen Beeney and Finn McCabe, along with center back James Minor, all “played well,” according to Prep coach Dave Crowell.

The fans in Peabody went home happy, as Fenwick took care of business against the Falcons. The Lady Crusaders were paced by Emme Lubas (22 assists), Charlotte Spooner (9 kills, 5 aces), Caitlin Boyle (6 kills), and Elizabeth Dumas (15 digs).

A nail-biter saw North Andover escape Peabody. Lizzy Bettencourt led the Tanners (1-1) with 28 kills. Sydney Lynch had 18 digs, while Sophia Coburn and Alyssa Zito played well around the net.

At The Meadow at Peabody, match winners for Marblehead (4-1) were Greyson Leventhal (medalist 36), Will Macrina, Joy Meshulam, Colby Moore, Dylan Whitman, and Teddy Dulac. Tristan Joyce and Anthony Modugno won for the Tanners.
