NORTH READING — With a four-run first inning, the Peabody Champions of the North Shore Baseball League never looked back – not for a second – en route to an 18-3 win against the North Reading A’s Monday.
The victory upped Peabody’s record to 14-5, putting the Champions atop the league with the Northeast Tides, North Shore Phillies, and Rowley NorEasters close behind.
North Reading plated all three of its runs in the fourth inning, but Peabody had already built a 10-run advantage. The sixth inning was the icing on top of a dominant cake, as Peabody poured in the game’s final seven runs.
Leading a versatile Peabody offense were Sam Armbruster (3 R, 4 BB), Cam Soroko (H, 2 R, 3 RBI), Liam McIlroy (2 H, 3 R, 4 RBI), Shane Keough (2 H, 4 R, 2 RBI), Noah Staffier (3 H, 2 R, 4 RBI), Chris Mansour (H), Rocco Ryan (R), Beckett Slayton (R, 2 BB), and James McCarthy (2 R, 2 BB).
Next up for the Champions was Wednesday’s showdown against the Phillies in Lynn. First pitch was slated for 8 p.m. with results too late to print.
