William Sabia pitched four scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts over the weekend to lead Peabody West (11s) to a 2-1 win against Peabody.
Sabia opened the scoring with an RBI-single to bring home Ryan Cunningham, who had walked. Peabody West scored its second run when Austin Burke, Jake Kallianidis, and Cooper Williams walked to load the bases for Cunningham, who then drew his second walk of the day for a 2-0 lead.
“Sabia was excellent today. He struggled early with his command, but continued to battle and pitched out of some big spots,” said Peabody West Manager Shaun Coburn. “He also led us at the plate, hitting out of the three spot with two base hits.”
Coburn also praised the opposition.
“They are a really good team with a great coaching staff. They came in, the coaches had them prepared, and those kids were ready to play. And if it wasn’t for a play here and there, it could have very easily gone the other way,” he said. “These kids being from the same town all play other sports together and although it was all business on the field, they will be rooting for each other going forward.”

Peabody West (12s) blanked West Lynn on Saturday behind strong pitching and fielding. Reid Ruffing started and threw three no-hit innings, striking out five and walking two. Owen Skerry pitched one inning of relief and struck out two.
“Pitching and fielding was solid. A couple nice plays by shortstop Leo Pietrosanto, Owen Skerry, and Ruffing each made a nice play at third base,” said Peabody West Manager Phillip Ragusa.
