To the editor:
The mission of our organization is simple: help people with disabilities and autism live as full and inclusive a life as possible. One way we do this is through a variety of Independent Living programs that empower individuals to make their own choices, live in their own homes, and participate fully in their communities — with the confidence and dignity they deserve.
The impact of this program is illustrated through Chianne Deegan. With assistance from NeArc’s Supported Employment team she is employed 20 hours per week with the Department of Developmental Services, enabling her to work in the community and earn a paycheck. Chianne also lives in a Northeast Arc apartment with a roommate and can do so with minimal staff support thanks to remote technology.
Chianne uses care.coach, which is an artificial intelligence-powered digital assistant. “It’s my virtual buddy,” says Chianne about the device that allows individuals to talk with a captivating avatar that serves as the face for care. coach’s team of specially trained health advocates.
“There was one time where I was having some minor pain, and [the care.coach] did a great job of helping me figure out if I needed to call a doctor, or if it could wait until the next day,” says Chianne.
This technology also benefits NeArc staff by alerting them to any issues a resident may be experiencing. This allows direct care workers to support residents without physically needing to be in their homes. As a result, Chianne has been able to reduce her reliance on direct care staff, giving her more freedom and independence.
Right now, your support of our Annual Fund is more vital than ever – for our organization, and people like Chianne. The size and scope of NeArc programs means that we are uniquely positioned to deliver flexible, person-centered services that help individuals thrive on their own terms. Whether it’s budgeting assistance, community access, or skill-building, our Independent Living staff are there — when and how they’re needed.
Your generosity fuels this freedom. It ensures that individuals are not defined by their challenges, but by their goals and potential.

Thank you for your compassion and continued partnership.
