In a back-and-forth thriller of a boys lacrosse game, host Peabody defeated Bishop Fenwick, 8-7, in Thursday’s (May 1) 14th annual Danish Cup. Neither side scored in the fourth quarter as the Tanners’ dominant first half was the difference.
Peabody led, 3-2, after the first quarter behind goals from Jason Houlden, Jayden Kritikos (4 goals, assist), and Derek Collins. From there, the Tanners carried a three-goal lead (7-4) into halftime.
Fenwick scored three third-quarter goals, courtesy of Nate Ricciuti and Aidan Byrne, to make things interesting, but Joe Vaz’s third-quarter tuck proved to be the game-winner for Peabody.
Liam Kelsch stood strong between Fenwick’s pipes with 11 saves.
Days earlier, Peabody’s Aidan Haight was the do-it-all Tanner in Tuesday (April 29) evening’s boys lacrosse game against Winthrop, but his team fell to the Vikings in a 9-7 final.
Haight made 18 saves between the pipes, but didn’t stop there. Not only did the netminder dish out an assist, but he scored a goal from the other side of the field in a jaw-dropping moment.
“He was incredibly dialed in today – one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play,” said Peabody Coach Jason Marshall, who also helms the Peabody-Saugus-Swampscott boys hockey team during winters.
Peabody’s Stephen Brown netted a hat trick and delivered an assist, while Houlden – playing in his first game after a preseason injury – also found the back of the net.
The Tanners hosted Masconomet Tuesday at 4 p.m. with results too late to print.
