You know what I’ve been thinking? From ground-ball fundamentals to highlight-reel goals, they’re just doing it right in Danvers…
At press time, the St. John’s Prep lacrosse team was 9-0 as calendars neared their May flips. This past week, the Eagles soared over Xaverian (10-6), Falmouth – Maine (11-6), and Andover (10-5).
Better yet, two wins (Falmouth and Andover) were in enemy territory.
The Prep squeezed by Xaverian behind Madden McGowan’s hat trick. Not far behind were Jackson Quigley, Beckett Lee, and Joe Bullard, who compiled two goals apiece. Goalie Austin Kitces made eight saves, while Will Crawford won 15-of-19 face-offs.
Two days later, in a battle of defending state champions, the Eagles rose to the occasion and took down Falmouth by five goals.
But it wasn’t easy. The Prep trailed, 2-0, before netting six unanswered goals in the first half. Lee and Luke Kelly went home with hat tricks and Jack Weissenburger (4 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers) wreaked havoc defensively.
Then, in a doubling of Andover, do-it-all Kitces made eight saves and scored a goal in the second quarter, to boot.
Eagles, good week.
