Track and field athletes from Peabody High traveled to Philadelphia and competed in last week’s Penn Relays. It’s a premier event featuring competition from all over the world, including those from the Bahamas and Jamaica.
The Tanners performed well. Alessandra Forgione, who was ranked No. 18 entering the competition, finished eighth overall in javelin. A new personal and school record was set by Forgione with a throw of 139-9. She was the fifth American finisher, with the top-three overall finishers coming from the Bahamas, according to Coach Fernando Braz.
Alex Jackson continued to impress. The future University of Virginia Cavalier threw 62-10 in shot put and finished seventh overall. Jackson was the fourth American finisher.

Billerica Memorial 7
With a “total team effort,” according to Peabody Coach Michelle Roach, her Tanners doubled up Billerica in enemy territory Saturday. Ally Bettencourt’s five goals, Brooke Lomasney’s six points, and Caitlin Snow’s 15 saves were the difference.
“We played strong in all three zones, and it was clear the focus and intensity we had in practice all week paid off,” Roach said. “Our defense was exceptional, our transition game was sharp, and the girls were locked in from the first whistle to the last. I’m incredibly proud of the outstanding performance and effort from the entire team. They truly showed how hard they’ve been working.”
Madi Barrett and Ari Alvarado each tucked a pair of goals. Bella Kassis and Victoria Vaz also scored.
