HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) helps abused women, children, men, and nonbinary people live free from violence and fear. As a leading domestic abuse agency in Massachusetts, HAWC provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic abuse in 23 towns and cities on the North Shore.
Last year, HAWC supported 2,181 individuals with over 25,000 services.
● HAWC maintains an undisclosed Emergency shelter
● Two community-based offices in Salem and Lynn
● 24/7 emergency hotline
● Staff at five local courts
● Free legal clinics and legal representation in high-risk cases
● Services for children who witness domestic abuse
● One-on-one advocacy
● Housing Navigation Services
● Community Education
● Support Groups
Beyond providing this help, HAWC advocates for social and cultural change. With one in three women and one in four men experiencing abuse each year, domestic abuse is an epidemic. To raise awareness and bolster prevention efforts, HAWC supplies the public with education, volunteer opportunities, annual community events, and frequent updates on related news and legislation.
