Simon, a real estate investment trust and owner of the Northshore Mall, recently announced the completion of a multimillion-dollar transformation of the mall.
The project stretches over many different additions including the 116,000 square foot Life Time Fitness, Gametime Lanes and Entertainment which opened earlier this year, and a Residence Inn by Marriott planned to begin operations in fall of 2026.
“The genesis of Simon is always looking for innovative ways to develop a diverse destination, to match our shoppers evolving wants and needs,” Northshore Mall General Manager Scott DeCost said. “We understood that the reinvestment in Northshore Mall really needed to focus on and provide a new and exciting shopping and dining and entertainment environment for our shoppers and the community.”
He emphasized the goal of making the mall a space for the community to gather and have a full suite of selections to occupy themselves with, whether that’s with varied dining options, health and fitness, or entertainment.
“With all of this redevelopment and the promenade, Northshore Mall, it’s not just a place to shop. It’s really a lifestyle and entertainment destination,” Director of Marketing Alexandra Meadus-Pitcher said. “It’s just really perfect for every generation. It’s more than just shopping. It is a destination.”
The addition of a 142-room hotel catering to extended-stay visitors creates a new dimension for the mall, where people can now stay within walking distance of everything it has to offer.
“In 2025, we have upcoming, Sandmagination, which is a parent’s passion project, where it creates a safe and fun learning experience,” Meadus-Pitcher said. “We’re also welcoming Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, and looking forward to 2026 when we’re also welcoming in DICK’s House of Sport. We’re just really excited about the future, focusing on that while celebrating what we’ve done so far.”
New, trendy eateries have started to arrive, like Honeywell, Sweetgreen, and the Skinny Pancake are a testament to the Northshore Mall’s status as a place where companies want to be.
Meanwhile, a venture like Sandmagination, founded by Swampscott couple Jason Stadtlander and Katerina Krumova, demonstrates a commitment to keeping space for local entrepreneurs.
“There’s a great sense of pride from the community because Northshore Mall has been such a large part of daily life and Peabody for decades, and we are just very excited to continue to contribute to the growth of this area,” Meadus-Pitcher said. “We’re really excited about the significant transformation and continuing to provide that go-to hub for the community, friends, and family.”
