2024 Peabody High graduate Abby Bettencourt, a freshman on the Brown University softball team, smacked the first home run of her college career March 22 in the Bears' 5-1 home loss to Dartmouth. Bettencourt has started in 14 of the Bears' 19 games, all at first base, compiling a .255 batting average with eight RBI, four doubles, and two stolen bases in two attempts. In the Bears' 17-7 win on March 29 at Penn, the former four-time Northeastern Conference MVP made her pitching debut. In 1.2 innings, Bettencourt struck out one, walked one, and didn’t allow a hit.
