In a wild game from start to finish on Sunday, Essex Tech’s boys hockey team skated to a 6-4 win against Weston to win the 25th Fairleigh Dickinson Jr. Invitational on Martha’s Vineyard. Brady Leonard (4 goals) led the way with a stellar performance. A day earlier on Saturday, Essex Tech won the Cape Ann League title with a three-goal win against Lynnfield. Leonard, Brian DeLisio, Teddy Tsoutsouris, and Jaydan Vargas scored for the Hawks.

Tournament MVP Ava Allen hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds left to give the Chieftains (18-2) the lead and drained two clutch free throws with 4.4 seconds left to ice it as Masconomet won the Larry McIntire IAABO Board 130 Classic at Marblehead High School. Samia Lalikos scored 13 points, giving her 31 in two days. The Tanners (9-11) were led by Elizabeth Bettencourt (14 points) and Ally Bettencourt (13).

Bishop Fenwick advanced to the Norwell Basketball Invitational championship after a 53-41 win over Hanover on Tuesday. Junior captain Caitlin Boyle had a game to remember, scoring 29 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Fellow junior Celia Neilson did a little bit of everything, scoring nine points, dishing out nine assists, and registering five steals. Senior Caroline Perry added seven points and played “great defense,” according to head coach Adam DeBaggis.

In the Larry McIntire IAABO Board 130 Classic at Marblehead High, the Tanners (9-10) rallied in the second half to keep their MIAA tournament hopes alive. Maia Davis and Avery Bettencourt scored 11 points apiece to lead Peabody, which will play Masconomet in the championship game Monday at 4:15 p.m. Stella Harrington led the Rockets (11-8).

The Eagles’ basketball team scored a big home win on Senior Night. St. John’s Prep Coach David Clay got balanced scoring from his team with eight players scoring at least a point. Michael Miller led the Eagles with 22 points and was lights out from distance, dialing in six threes. Brian Norton also had the hot hand, adding 14 points and hitting three triples. St. John’s Prep connected on 20 threes.

No home ice, no problem for PLNR, which blew by Masconomet by seven goals inside of the Haverhill Valley Forum. Better yet, the win clinched a league co-championship (Winthrop) for Coach Michelle Roach and company. Saturday’s goals were scored by Daniella White, Ava Louanis, Chloe Gromko, Ava Buckley, Shirley Whitmore, Erin Dee, and Leah Buckley. Grace Allen and Alexa Pepper dished out two assists each.

Avery White and Nevin Mustone netted goals in No. 3 Malden Catholic’s (11-2-3) narrow home win against No. 10 PLNR (13-3-1). Sydney Zizza found the back of the net for PLNR to extend her goal-scoring streak to three games, while netminder Alyse Mutti played a “huge game,” according to coach Michelle Roach, with 39 saves. Roach also credited Shirley Whitmore and Eleni Spack for strong performances.
