January 21, 2025 by Joey Barrett

Peabody’s boys basketball team’s seven-game winning streak was snapped after Friday night’s game in Beverly. The Tanners (7-4) fell to the Panthers, 74-45, with Mark Mendonca (17 points), Thad Broughton (14), and Justin Pais (5) leading the effort.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bishop Fenwick 63
Cardinal Spellman 57

Nate Alders (20 points) and Dom Torres (14) did most of the damage in Fenwick’s home win against Cardinal Spellman.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Central Catholic 49
Bishop Fenwick 40

The Lady Crusaders (7-4) couldn’t capitalize inside of their home gym and fell to Central Catholic. Leading Fenwick were Celia Neilson (11 points, 6 assists) as well as Caitlin Boyle, Sienna Mancinelli, and Reese Spurchise, who all scored eight points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Xaverian 2
St. John’s Prep 1

The Prep – even with a 48-31 shot advantage – fell to 4-6. Xaverian took advantage of an odd-man rush to score the game-winning goal with six minutes to go. Brandon Ward scored for The Prep, assisted by Ryan Delucia and Sam Croke.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading 8
Newburyport 0

The James McVann-Louis O’Keefe Memorial Skating Rink in Peabody was home to eight goals Friday evening, and all of them came from the home team. PLNR (7-1-1) clipped Newburyport behind two goals apiece from Ava Louanis and Chloe Gromko. Mia Lava, Ava Buckley, and Daniella White also found the back of the net.
