MARBLEHEAD — Peabody’s girls track team came from behind in the last event to salvage a hard-fought 43-43 tie against host Marblehead on Dec. 19 in the first meet of the indoor season.
Lauren Foley, Maddy Barrett, Ava Champigny, and Avery Marcus secured the tie with a win in the 4×400 relay (4:30.96).
“It was a very exciting meet going down to the relay, won by Peabody to create a tie,” said Peabody coach Phil Sheridan, who added that wins in the shot put, 1,000m, and 2-mile were “keys to Peabody’s effort.”
Alessandra Forgione (34-5), Madison Holleran (28-5.75), and Rafaela Hernandez (25-7.5) swept the shot, while Lauren Foley won the 1,000m (12:57.4) and Ella Braz won the 2-mile (12:57).
Second-place finishers were turned in by Kayley Burns in the high hurdles (9.94), Jane Haight in the mile (5:57), Maya Sutton in the 300m (49.2), Barrett in the 600m (1:53.8), Avery Marcus in the 1,000m (3:35.65) and Makayla Kokonezis in the high jump (4-8).
