The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School AFJROTC and the United States Air Force was extended during last week’s School Committee Meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Josh Vadala called for a vote that passed unanimously to sign the MOA on the school’s behalf, which will extend the agreement between the JROTC and the air force that is set to expire at the end of this school year
“They’re very happy with our program. They’re happy with how our numbers have improved over the past three to five and they’re looking for another three year agreement,” said Dr. Vadala.
This comes after the PVMHS raiders won a haul of trophies during last month’s national competition in Molena, Georgia, a testament to the program’s success.
“The program itself teaches everyone to be a good citizen and to be responsible,” commented committee member Beverley Griffin Dunne after the vote. “We can see it with a lot of the projects the students do throughout the year.”
She also highlighted how the AFJROTC students have helped out during city hall events and volunteered with veteran’s organization throughout the city.
Despite being partnered with the United States military, the program does not recruit or require enlistment and instead focuses on instilling qualities of leadership and character growth.
“They play an important part, but more than anything they’re learning to give back… It’s really done a lot for the students that participate, but also for anyone who gets to see what they do,” added Dunne.
