Holy Cow Ice Cream Shop took home Northeast Flavor of the Year for their “Pistachio Baklava” and Grand Master Ice Cream Maker at this year’s North American Ice Cream Association’s annual ConeCon convention in Savannah, Georgia.
This marks three straight years that Holy Cow has won a Flavor of the Year award, with their flavor “Jackpot” winning last year and “Ritzy AF” the year before. In addition, they earned a blue ribbon for their new flavor “Ecuadorian Cocoa”.
Based in Gloucester, owner Mike Schifino opened a new location in Peabody three years ago in late May of 2021 and has been a hit with the local community and beyond ever since.
Holy Cow was crowned as a Grand Master Ice Cream Maker due to their achievement of winning a blue ribbon at three conventions within five years, putting them in the prestigious company of only a few confection creators from around the country.
Known for their unique flavors that rotate seasonally like “Boston Blackout”, a black cocoa ice cream with black cocoa layer cake, the shop has opened four locations so far, with three in the North Shore area and one on Cape Cod.
This year’s winning flavor features a honey-infused pistachio butter base, bits of phyllo dough, and roasted pistachio toffee. In addition, they also earned honors for their vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry flavors at the conventions.
On the Holy Cow Facebook page, the store told the public how they’re celebrating the win: “By making more ice cream.”
