Peabody City Councilor Anne Manning-Martin, a self-described conservative candidate for Governor’s Council for the 5th District, has issued a pledge and is challenging opponent specifically Democrat Eunice Zeigler of Methuen to do the same. Manning-Martin promises to approve and appoint judges and magistrates who promise to protect the public by cooperating with ICE detainers in criminal cases.
The 5th district covers the North Shore, Merrimack Valley and Greater Lowell areas.
Manning-Martin is a 32 -year corrections professional, has risen to upper management at the Department of Corrections, and is the only public safety expert across Massachusetts in the race for Governor’s Council, which appoints judges and clerk magistrates to the bench as well as members to the Parole Board.
“The recent spate of activist judges ignoring ICE detailers and releasing dangerous criminal illegal immigrants directly into our communities demonstrate that these judges care more about preserving their political views rather than public safety, especially that of women and children, who have been the top target of murder and rape,” Manning-Martin said. “One need look no further than the judge who snuck a criminal illegal alien out the courthouse back door while ICE was coming in the front door, the Nantucket judge who released alleged child rapists defying ICE detainer warrants, or the judge who set an alleged child rapist’s bail at $500 so that he would be one step ahead of ICE, who took months to catch him. All of the victims? Women and children.”
Manning-Martin said these “grotesque miscarriages” of justice cry out for a Governor’s Councillor who will demand that every judicial nominee who comes before the Council promises to detain illegal immigrants until ICE has the opportunity to apprehend them.
“That is why I pledge to refuse to approve any judge or clerk magistrate who will not promise to cooperate with ICE in criminal cases and challenge my opponent to make the same pledge,” Manning-Martin said. “Justice demands it, and I will demand it of all judicial nominees. I am hopeful that my Democrat opponent will pledge to do the same. It’s a common sense position, but one that is not in keeping with radical positions she has already taken.”
The race for Governor’s Council is already underway. Early voting started Oct. 19 and concludes on Nov 1. Election Day is Nov. 5, 2024.
