Four goals in a span of 10 minutes saw the Peabody and Swampscott boys soccer teams draw, 2-2, on Monday. Twice the Tanners were trailing and twice they found an equalizing goal. It was a scoreless first half, but in the second, Swampscott’s Jack Raymond found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and poked it past to give the Big Blue a 1-0 lead. Peabody responded within a minute as Kacper Kowalczyk side-footed the ball into the corner to level the game, 1-1. Straight from kickoff, Swampscott got its second goal as Raymond crossed it to Milad Sassin who recorded a tap-in to make it 2-1.Fast forward a few minutes, and it was Peabody again as Osama Mishal rebounded a save into the back of the net.

Peabody was shut out on enemy turf this past Saturday. According to coach Stan McKeen, his Tanners are “struggling scoring, to say the least.” As for positives, he credited Kacper Kowalczyk and Dylan Flanagan for playing strong games.

The Tanners (4-4-4) protected home turf on Senior Night with a shutout win over the Big Blue. Leading the way for Peabody were two senior attackers in Ally Bettencourt (goal) and Connie Patturelli (goal). Avery Marcus and Jess Steed provided the assists, while Alessandra Forgione continued her strong season with another shutout.

Peabody saw three goal-scorers on Monday to help the Tanners get past Malden with relative ease. Amelia DiBattista opened up the scoring for Peabody before Mia Omondi found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Omondi’s tally was assisted by Emily Hefler. Peabody’s third goal came in the fourth quarter when Hefler went from passer to scorer. Her shot got past the Malden goalie to make it 3-0. Hefler’s goal was assisted by Daniella White.
“Newcomer Emily Hefler had her best game of the season and was a clear Player of the Game,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin said.

The Peabody field hockey team drew even with its city rival on Saturday. Sophia Kassis of the Tanners made four key saves and Mia Omondi scored her first goal of the season (Daniella White assist).
“Fun cross-town match today for our teams,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin. “Presenting a different look both offensively and defensively was tricky today, but proved to be successful.”

Sophia Kassis made 12 saves and Daniella White found the back of the net for Peabody, but Danvers escaped with a one-goal win on its home turf. Panayiota Nikolouzos added a defensive save for the Tanners.
“It was a hard-fought game that went into halftime 1-0,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin. “Daniella White found nothing but net on her penalty stroke midway through the final quarter to even the score. Jaylaa Eagan played hard and determined, having an impressive defensive game. Jaylaa came up with the ball and cut short a handful of scoring opportunities. She earned our Player of the Game.”
CROSS COUNTRY
Adelaide Sweatman (2nd) and Olivia Rowe (3rd) were medalists in Bishop Fenwick’s Catholic Central League Meet, held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the high school. Both the boys and girls teams finished fourth.
In the 2-mile course, Sweatman (12:49) and Rowe (13:35) each ran personal bests.
“Both Addy and Olivia have been training really well, and I was very interested to see how they competed at their grade level in the CCL meet,” said Fenwick coach Fred Doyle. “Not only were their times competitive, but they ran very aggressively and strong the entire race. They will compete in the sophomore 5K race at the MSTCA Twilight Meet on October 12.”
Ryan Gauthier led Fenwick’s boys with a sixth-place finish and personal-best time of 12:26. Gauthier made a strong effort in the second loop to assure himself a strong finish.
“Ryan has improved tremendously this year,” Doyle said. “He has moved into our top-seven varsity runners and continues to get stronger.”
Swampscott’s girls split their meets on the same day. The Big Blue beat Salem, 15-50, but lost to Peabody, 21-46. Leading the way were Annabelle Averette (1st), Collette Heil, Theia Giantis, Vera Conley, and Anna Metaxatos.
On the boys’ side, Swampscott took care of Salem, 15-37, and Peabody, 26-35. The team received strong performances from Simon Brown, Anthony Colella, Miles Brown, Hunter Hersey, and Atticus Jakious.
