BRAINTREE — Talk about an offensive explosion. Bishop Fenwick’s football team remained undefeated (4-0) with a 40-13 road win against Archbishop Williams Friday night, scoring five touchdowns alongside a field goal and a safety.
Aidan Silva had the game of his life. He kicked a 41-yard field goal, snagged an interception, was six-for-six on extra points, and returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown. He also had four touchbacks on kickoffs.
“It’s always been a tough place for us to play at Williams and Friday was no different,” said coach Dave Woods. “It was their homecoming and they had a ton of energy, so to come away with the win was great. Aidan Silva had a phenomenal game – pretty good night. Brayden Clifford also had a great game on offense and captain Aidan Byrne led us on both the offensive line and defensive line with another outstanding game.”
Nate Allder opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown from Clifford (8-for-17, 91 yards, TD) after Silva tacked on the extra point. Tied 7-7 after the first quarter, the Crusaders exploded for 17 points in the second quarter to lead 24-13 at the half. Silva (4-for-4 PAT) split the uprights on a 41-yard field goal, then Dylan Patturelli (17 carries, 82 yards) scored from 13 yards and 3 yards out.
It was all Fenwick in the second half. A 12-yard quarterback keeper from Clifford and Silva’s punt return bumped Fenwick’s lead to 38-13 after the third quarter. T.J. Perillo accounted for the final points of the game with a safety in the fourth quarter.
Tyler Connolly led the Crusaders’ ground attack with 83 yards on eight carries. Neal String (carry, 30 yards), Clifford (2 carries, 13 yards), Joe Morceau (3 carries, 12 yards), Jackson Cody (3 carries, 9 yards) and Craig Masone (carry, 5 yards) also contributed.
Connolly led the receiving crew with 54 yards on two catches. Silva (2 catches, 19 yards), Nate Allder (catch, 15 yards), Patturelli (catch, 3 yards), Odin Garron, and Jesse Timson also had receptions.
Fenwick, which is the No. 3 ranked team in Division 5, is back in action Friday night at Donaldson Stadium against Cardinal Spellman (0-4), the No. 27 ranked team in Division 6.
“They have had some injuries to key players who will be back this week, so we expect to get their best shot,” Woods said. “Last year when we played, both teams were 4-0 and they beat us, 28-14, so we’re hoping to play better this year.”
