You know what I’ve been thinking? Since the Bruins haven’t re-signed Jeremy Swayman (why, I don’t know), maybe they should head north to Peabody.
Field hockey goalie Sophia Kassis was a Tanner on a mission last week. Better yet, her team completed a 3-1 week with her between the pipes.
Through four games (Gloucester, Haverhill, Swampscott, Saugus), Kassis recorded 49 saves and allowed just five goals. Yes, I triple-checked the numbers.
Her best performances came against Gloucester and Saugus. Kassis saved 23 and 15 shots, respectively, to split the matchups.
And against the Sachems, Kassis scored a little bit of history as well.
“The 15th save made by Sophia Kassis in the fourth quarter marked her 251st save between this season and her first – just last year,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin.
I know this is an Athlete of the Week award, but even the tail-end of last week came with some theatrics. Kassis made 17 big stops against Masconomet.
The Tanners host Beverly at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (too late to print). Something tells me the Panthers will need to bring their offense to get a few past Kassis.
