Essex County OB/GYN partners with North Shore Mother Visiting Partnership

Working together to make essential postpartum care and support accessible on the North Shore

September 3, 2024 by For The Weekly News

Essex County OB/GYN is excited to announce its new partnership with North Shore Mother Visiting Partnership (NS MVP), a public-health initiative providing free home visits from public-health nurses to new parents in the North Shore area. Their mission is to bridge the postpartum care gap by offering personalized support, resources, and assessments to ensure the well-being of both mothers and infants. NS MVP prioritizes maternal health equity and works to reduce disparities, offering universal support regardless of insurance or income in Beverly, Danvers, Essex, Gloucester, Hamilton, Lynn, Manchester, Marblehead, Peabody, Rockport, Salem, Swampscott, or Wenham.

Any caregiver or guardian welcoming a new infant into their home is eligible for a visit from NS MVP, including adoptive parents, grandparents, and anyone in the postpartum period, regardless of their child’s presence. Anyone interested is eligible for up to one year after giving birth or adopting a baby.

New parents will receive a comprehensive home visit from a public-health nurse, including a well-being assessment and conversation with the nurse about how they are doing and feeling, including a depression and anxiety assessment, essential resources for both parent and baby, referrals to local services, gifts for both parents and baby, including essentials like diapers and wipes, a demonstration of how to perform CPR on an infant, and a non-judgmental discussion focused on parent and baby, centering on the health of both. The visit can take place in the parent’s home or at a different agreed-upon location. A friend, parent, or spouse is also allowed at the visit. NS MVP’s services are universal and free of charge, and no insurance information is required.

Essex County OB/GYN understands the importance of both physical and mental health, in the postpartum period and through every stage of one’s health-care journey. With their team and partners like NS MVP, FamilyWell, and more, they aim to make access to necessary care and support more manageable and affordable. A full list of partners can be found here: https://ecobgyn.org/partner/. For more information on NS MVP, visit their website at https://www.nsmvp.org/ns-mvp.
