Residents at Brooksby Village competed in three Olympic-style events to exercise and celebrate their Olympic spirit.
Twenty-five Brooksby Village residents competed against residents from other Erickson Senior Living communities for its first ever summer Olympics, Fitness Manager Rokai Paone said.
Brooksby Village in Peabody is one of the 24 Erickson Senior Living communities across the country.
The residents competed in three events — a one-mile on any piece of cardiovascular equipment, 10 lengths in the pool however they wanted to do it, and then the strength category, which consisted of one minute of sit-to-stands, one minute of rest, and one minute of push-ups, Paone said.
“The Brooksby Village Olympics was great for our residents to get into the Olympic spirit and enjoy friendly competition, fun, and socializing,” she said. “Residents enjoyed getting some exercise, meeting new friends, and competing with community members.”
Resident Bob Hendricks, who won a gold medal, said he “enjoyed the challenge” of getting ready and participating in the Brooksby Olympics.
“First, I had to decide which of the three events to participate in. With encouragement from my trainer, Brooksby Village Fitness Specialist Sharon Graves, I finally decided to try all three. When the big day came, it was great fun to cheer my friends and colleagues on,” he said. “We all had a wonderful time and look forward to having another even soon — the rumor has it that maybe in two years? I surely hope so.”
