To the editor:
As the Republican candidate for state Senate in the 2nd Essex District, I am calling on Sen. Joan Lovely to apologize for her support of green-energy initiatives that have harmed our environment, economy, and marine life.
The Cape Wind Project’s wind recent turbine failures off Nantucket have caused debris to pollute our beaches and the waters off the cape and islands, damaging marine ecosystems and harming the fishing industry. Sonar mapping for wind turbines disorients marine life, leading to whale and marine life beaching incidents. Sen. Lovely’s support for these projects endangers our marine biodiversity and fishermen’s livelihoods.
Green-energy policies have led to higher energy costs, with offshore wind energy costing up to 32 cents per kilowatt-hour compared to eight cents for fossil fuels. Additionally, $735 million in subsidies and $1.2 billion in tax credits for projects like Cape Wind cost taxpayers billions annually. The manufacturing of green-energy technology often involves forced labor and human-rights abuses.
Sen. Lovely supports green-energy legislation. Her support for the Cape Wind project and similar initiatives degrades our natural landscapes and strains our citizens financially. How much money is flowing into her campaign coffers from the green-energy lobbyists to destroy the beautiful shores of Massachusetts?
Sen. Lovely must be held accountable for the negative impacts of her policies. It’s time for solutions that prioritize Massachusetts, not Washington. The people of Massachusetts deserve economically viable and environmentally sustainable energy solutions.
