The Rotary Club of Peabody presented a check for $1,000 to the city’s Veterans Services Department on Veterans Day.
The money came from donations and the Rotary Club, Rotarian and veteran Herb Harris said.
The Rotary Club held a Walk For Veterans and a Day of Service on Veterans Day last year to recognize veterans and raise funds for the department, Harris said.
The day of service was led by Rotary Service Coordinator Stephanie Johnson and at the end of the walk, the club cleaned up the area around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Peabody Square, he said.
“We were saying, ‘We give service to those who served us,’” Harris said.
That department helps veterans in countless ways, including assisting with disability claims, making appointments for doctors and VA visits, providing rides to those appointments, financial assistance, education, and other veterans’ benefits. The department also hosts a biannual Veterans Day breakfast, he said.
