DANVERS — Dominant.
That’s the only way to describe the Tanners boys track team when it comes to outdoor track. Peabody has competed in 16 conference championship meets since joining the Northeastern Conference in 2008 – the Tanners have won every one of them.
Saturday at Danvers High, they didn’t just win, they absolutely lapped the field with 166 points, more than double that of runner-up Marblehead, which tallied 82 points.
The girls teams tallied 100 points and finished third behind winner Masconomet (160 points) and runner-up Marblehead (118). Alessandra Forgione had a meet to remember, winning both the discus (115-03) and javelin (114-08), while Nicole Ofurie won the shot put (PR 33-02.5).
The boys’ dominance was especially on display in the field events with the Tanners winning gold in five six events.
Alex Jackson won two events and placed third in another. He won the shot put with a meet record 57-08 and also won the discus with a school record and PR 179-04. He placed third in the javelin (142-07).
Evan Bedard also was a double winner. He won the long jump with a meet record 22-0 and also won the triple jump (43-04). Declan Smith won the high jump with a PR 6-00.
Areno Saint-Victor was runner-up in the discus with a PR 139-00 and also placed second in the shot put (46-00). Aneudy Medrano placed second in the javelin (154-01) and Riley Michaud PR’d and placed second in the triple jump (41-06.5).
Other top-10 finishers in field events included Brian Stevens (39-09) and Omar Misal (38-04.50) in the triple jump, third and fourth, respectively; Jackson O’Brien, fourth in the shot put (PR 44-05.5); Kobe Avery, fifth in the long jump (PR 20-08), Iago Pachero, seventh in the high jump (5-06); Juan Rivera (PR 19-11); and Aniel Espinal (19-09), seventh and eighth, respectively, in the long jump; Hannington Senfuma, eighth in the high jump (5-06); and Matthew Ryder, ninth in the discus (PR 111-00).
On the track side, the 4×100 relay team of Bedard, Eli Batista, Avery, and Henry Sawyer (44.31) snagged the Tanners’ only gold medal. Stevens was the top individual performer; he was runner-up in the 400 hurdles with a PR 57.62. Mishal (fourth, 59.43) and Mohamed Lhassouani (sixth, 1:01.71) also set PRs.
Lhassounani, Stevens, Dorlyn Morel and Mishal finished second in the 4×400 relay (3:31.16).
Third-place finishes were turned in by Owen Brennan in the 800 (2:02.08), Declan Smith in the mile (4:33.91) and Peyton Smith in the 110 hurdles (15.65). Eli Batista (23.36) and Morel (23.68 finished fourth and sixth respectively in the 200.
Declan Smith, Brennan, Mishal, and Ryan Faletra finished fourth in the 4×800 relay (8:51.30).
Other top-10 finishers included Robert Smith, fifth in the 110 hurdles (17.39); Faletra, sixth in the 2-mile (PR 9:59.66), Sawyer, sixth in the 100 (11.78), Matthew McCusker, eighth in the mile (4:48.44); Charlie Alviti, ninth in the 400 (PR 55.50) and Joseph Thibault, 10th in the 400 (PR 55.86).
All three girls’ relay teams turned in runner-up finishes. Marissa Simmons, Shailize Franco, Tamara Kemigisha and Makayla Kokonezis ran the 4×100 in 52.54, Stella D’Ambrosio, Ava Champigny, Maya Sutton and Avery Marcus ran the 4×400 in 4:29.66 and Kyra Buckley, Jane Haight, Leah Buckley and Avery ran the 4×800 in 10:49.75.
Leah Buckley (12:11.20) and Ava Buckley (PR 12:14.27) finished second and fourth respectively in the 2-mile. Kyra Buckley placed third in the mile with a PR 5:32.95. Kayley Burn (18.19) and Kokonezis (18.86) placed third and seventh respectively in the 100 hurdles and Yosmery Batista (PR 1:12.04) and Sutton (PR 1:12.53) placed third and fifth respectively in the 400 hurdles. Marcus (PR 2:29.16) and Haight (2:32.78) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 800 and Batista (1:02.75), Champigny (PR 1.03.34) and D’Ambrosio (1:04.13) placed fourth, sixth and eighth respectively in the 400.
Madison Holleran (30-00), Raphaela Fernandez (PR 29-10.5) and Angelina Flores (26-05.5) finished fifth, sixth and ninth respectively in the shot put. Holleran also finished seventh in the javelin (80-03). Stella Ketchiman finished sixth in the triple jump (33-05.05) and Simmons finished ninth in the 100 (13.76).
